Choosing the Best Boiler

BOILERS TO SUIT YOUR HOME & BUDGET

The lifespan of a boiler is between 10 and 15 years (depending on how well it is serviced and maintained), but like all appliances, there will come a time when it needs replacing. You’ll know it’s time for a new boiler if you’re getting hit with frequent breakdowns, expensive repairs, critical warning signs like water leaks, strange noises or an unexpected spike in gas or oil bills.

We understand that a new boiler is a major investment, but one that is vital for your home’s comfort, safety and efficiency. We’ve carried out hundreds of boiler installations in the city of Bath, and the Wiltshire towns of Bradford on Avon, Corsham, and Trowbridge, so are ready, willing and able to ensure we fit a boiler that is perfect for your purposes. Fuel efficiency is a big consideration with ever-increasing energy bills, but there are other factors too when choosing a new or replacement boiler.

Our Gas Safe and OFTEC registered engineers can recommend a boiler that fits your home’s heating and hot water requirements as well as your budget. For flats and small houses, combi boilers work well, while family homes with multiple bathrooms are best served with a system boiler.

We specialise in fitting high-efficiency condensing boilers and heating systems that maximise energy use by capturing and recycling waste heat from exhaust gases. Unlike traditional boilers, they can convert more than 90% of the fuel they use into heat, rather than wasting it through the exhaust flue, which reduces energy bills and your carbon footprint.

What to Expect

THE BOILER INSTALLATION PROCESS

As you can imagine, fitting a new boiler in your home is a complex operation, impacting as it does your central heating, hot water, electrical and gas or oil pipework and connections.

When we fit a replacement boiler, the first task we undertake is to remove the old boiler, which requires turning off gas, oil, water and power supplies and draining the system before the boiler and flue components can be removed for responsible recycling. If required, we can remove any associated redundant water storage tanks or outdated control panels too.

The next stage is mounting and connecting the new boiler in its pre-determined position, updating or re-routing pipework when and where necessary. There’ll be some drilling and the mains water may have to be turned off intermittently.

Once all is in place, we will clean out the system before carrying out thorough testing of the boiler and heating system and walking you through all the operational functions and controls.

A straightforward like-for-like boiler replacement usually takes just a day, but if system conversions are required, if access is difficult, or layouts have to be changed, this could extend into another day or more. You’ll be adequately warned by our team of how long the work will take, and we request that children and pets be kept away from the area for safety’s sake while we’re busy.

Maintenance & Repairs

WE SERVICE & FIX OLD AND NEW BOILERS

Once your new gas or oil boiler is up and running – or if you have an old existing boiler to take care of – you need to schedule an annual service to keep it operating healthily and happily with optimal fuel efficiency.

Our qualified, experienced engineers can service, test and inspect all types and sizes of gas or oil boilers, picking up any potential problems to minimise the risk of boiler breakdowns. Safety and operational efficiency are also a priority on the checklist. We recommend that boilers be serviced at least once a year – preferably in spring or summer when they are not in full use.

If your boiler is faulty – or stops working completely – our team will respond quickly to efficiently diagnose and repair the problem as affordably as possible. For older boilers, you can trust us to deliver an honest opinion on whether repairs are cost-effective or whether a boiler replacement would be preferable, depending on the fault, spare parts required and overall condition of the boiler.

Some of the main issues we deal with when it comes to gas boilers are loss of pressure, leaks from worn seals or valves, broken tap or radiator diverter valves, kettling (boiling noise) or the failure of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board).

Oil boilers generally have problems such as blocked or damaged oil nozzles, sludge in the oil line, or a faulty photocell that detects the flame.

Don’t let a broken boiler leave you out in the cold. Give us a call at the first sign of boiler trouble and schedule your next boiler service today.
